Wu Weishan, a member of the Standing Committee of CPPCC National Committee and director of the National Art Museum of China, has dedicated himself to promoting aesthetic education for the general public over the past years.

“Aesthetic education has become a buzzword in recent years in academic circles. I believe aesthetic education plays an irreplaceable role in the holistic, synthetic, and harmonious development of man,” Wu said. “So, it is high time to make full use of all social resources possible to promote national aesthetic education as the country is gearing up to construct Chinese-style modernization.”

Wu said: “We need to enhance both the material and cultural development of our society and integrate excellent Chinese traditional culture with modern culture to nourish people’s minds.”

Public cultural institutions such as museums, art galleries, and theatres shall be utilized as an organic component of state education, and public service advertisements shall be shown in public spaces and public media platforms and in communities and neighborhoods across the country, propagating knowledge about arts and culture and the core values of the Chinese nation, Wu said.

“National aesthetic education is not a one-time or short-term campaign, but a long-term endeavor which requires sustained input by the government and all parties of our society,” Wu pointed out.

“National aesthetic education shall be accessible to all members of our society, including the young, the elderly, and the disabled,” Wu concluded.
