Chinese Athletics Association president under disciplinary review
Yu Hongchen, president of the Chinese Athletics Association, is suspected of committing serious violations of Party disciplines and the law and is under disciplinary review and supervisory investigation which is being led by the stationed discipline inspection team sent by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision to the General Administration of Sport and the Hubei Provincial Supervision Commission.
Hubei Provincial Supervision Commission shared this in a statement on Wednesday.
Yu worked in the General Administration of Sport for a long time. He also once worked in the football sector for several years, and served as the Chairman of the Chinese Football Association Super League and vice president of the Chinese Football Association.
In August 2017, he served as the director of the athletics management center of the General Administration of Sport. He was elected as the president of the Chinese Athletics Association in December 2022.
The recently launched first round of disciplinary inspection of the 20th CPC Central Committee placed the General Administration of Sport on the list of impromptu and flexible inspections, aiming to further identify and help tackle corruption and deep-seated institutional problems in sports, especially football, in order to provide a strong guarantee for building China into a leading sporting nation.
