Fu Ting lost her right arm in a car accident when she was 3. At the age of 13, she began swimming training at a sports school in Xiangtan. During her years as an athlete, she participated in Athens 2004 Paralympic Games and other domestic and foreign events, and won 18 gold medals.
After retiring in 2004, Fu Ting entered the university to study law and worked as a lawyer after graduating with a master's degree.
In 2017, Fu Ting set up a legal service studio, providing free legal service and aid for disabled people. At the same time, She also participated in a volunteer group, sharing stories in primary and secondary schools and giving legal lectures in communities, in order to encourage more people to help those disabled people in need.
"In the face of disabled people, we should first 'respect' and then 'help'," Fu Ting said. "I'm pleasured to use my own experience and knowledge to help them build self-confidence and better integrate into the society. I believe I will keep on doing that."
