Chicco Mao unveils 2024 Spring-Summer collection in Beijing
Apart from the edgy use of photo-chromic dyes, the collection features pieces created by Cyanotype, one of the earliest photographic printing methods that involves laying an object on fabrics coated with a solution of iron salts before exposing it to UV light and washing it with water to create stunning white and blue images.
In creating the logo for the new collection, the designer borrowed inspiration from the Peking Opera mask, whose symmetrical designs echo the brand's logo, a vertical red strip dividing a snow-white bird with spread-out wings.
Mao graduated from the Italian fashion academy Istituto Marangoni in 2013. The millennial designer is known for fusing Western culture with Eastern aesthetic elements. In 2019, he was recognized as one of China’s top 10 designers at China Fashion Week. He has dressed many A-list actresses such as Zhang Ziyi, Yang Ying, Yang Mi and Sun Li.
