Positive results were seen in China's three-month-long "2023 Clear Wind Action" campaign, which has curbed illegal activities that harm wildlife, reinforced the nation's ban on wildlife trade and eradicated the consumption of wild animals.

During the campaign — which ran from March to June after being jointly launched by 11 central government departments — more than 14,000 cases involving wildlife were investigated, 10,000 of which were criminal cases, the National Forestry and Grassland Administration said.

Over 15,000 people involved in related illegal activities were punished, and more than 90,000 wildlife products were confiscated, with ill-gotten gains totaling 190 million yuan ($26 million) seized, the administration added.

It said it focused on cracking down on the illegal hunting, capture, killing, trading, purchasing, transportation, consumption and use of wildlife. The other government bodies involved in the campaign were the ministries of agriculture and rural affairs, public security, transport and the administrations of customs, market regulation, railway, civil aviation and cyberspace, as well as the State Post Bureau and the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the CPC Central Committee.
