Musicians across the Strait join hands in presenting 'The Cloud of Hometown'
The Cloud of Hometown, a popular Chinese song, has been adapted into a music piece performed by baritone Sun Li and cellist Chen Qian-liang.
The Song and Dance Troupe of Fujian Province, Fujian Vocational College of Art and Fuzhou Strait Symphony Orchestra also performed together for the song.
In 1987, The Cloud of Hometown was performed by ChineseAmerican singer-actor Kris Phillip, better known domestically by his Chinese name Fei Xiang, during the CCTV Spring Festival Gala—one of the most-watched TV shows in the country. The song soon gained a large fan base.
According to Sun, head of the Song and Dance Troupe of Fujian Province and Fujian Vocational College of Art, the new adaptation is a join effort of musicians from the Chinese mainland and Taiwan.
Fuzhou Strait Symphony Orchestra, formed in 2021, gathered musicians from Taiwan and the Chinese mainland. Cellist Chen is one of them, who moved from Taiwan to Fujian with his family and joined in the Fuzhou Strait Symphony Orchestra.
