China opposes US' limits to its semiconductors
China has expressed its opposition to the United States' efforts to limit China's access to semiconductors and other cutting-edge technologies, the Ministry of Commerce said on Thursday.
The US has been overstretching the concept of national security, making wanton use of export controls and bilateral investment restrictions, which undermines market rules and international economic order, and threatens global industrial and supply chains, said He Yadong, spokesman of the ministry.
He made the remarks in response to the US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo's recent declaration that China poses a major threat to US national security and her demand for action to restrict China's access to semiconductors and other advanced technologies.
Despite these actions, China remains undeterred in its pursuit of development and growth, He said, warning that such measures will only hurt American firms by costing them market shares in China and ultimately hurting their own interests.
China will steadfastly defend its own rights and interests while closely monitoring the progress and effects of the relevant actions from the US side, He added.
