Wuxi Symphony Orchestra debuts at New Year concert
The Wuxi Symphony Orchestra presented its 2024 New Year Concert at the Wuxi Grand Theatre on the evening of Jan 1, marking the orchestra's official debut.
The concert was conducted by Lin Daye, the orchestra's artistic director and chief conductor. As an original symphonic work themed around the city of Wuxi, Wuxi Overture premiered as the opening piece of the concert.
Denis Matsuev, an internationally acclaimed Russian pianist, graced the stage with a rendition of Piano Concerto No. 2 in C Minor.
The Wuxi Symphony Orchestra, founded by Wuxi and the Wuxi National Hi-tech District, currently boasts 66 talented young musicians from around the world.
In the upcoming musical season, the orchestra plans to host more than 100 events, including tours to countries such as Japan, South Korea and Singapore. Renowned artists like Lang Lang will be invited to participate in the performances.
Construction on the Wuxi Symphony Hall is currently underway. The venue, expected to be completed by the end of 2025, will serve as a comprehensive arts center housing facilities for artistic exchange and a performing arts commercial center.
