Wang Yi calls for stronger UN
The role of the United Nations should be strengthened, not weakened, and the status of the UN must be upheld, not replaced, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Thursday.
Wang told a news conference at the sidelines of the annual legislative session that China always believes there is only one system in the world, and that is the international system with the UN at its core.
He added that Beijing upholds that there is only one set of rules, that is the basic norm of international relations based on the purposes and principles of the UN Charter.
"No country should do whatever suits it or reinvent the wheel," he said.
The senior diplomat stressed Beijing's commitment to working with the international community to support the continuous development and improvement of the UN.
Beijing will practice true multilateralism and promote greater democracy and rule of law in international relations, he said.
