Shanghai delegation submits 7 motions and 156 suggestions to plenary session

The Shanghai delegation to the second session of the 14th National People's Congress, China's top legislature, submitted altogether seven motions and 156 suggestions during the annual plenary session of the legislature, which concluded in Beijing on Monday.

Among them, two motions and six suggestions were submitted by the entire Shanghai delegation composed of 57 NPC deputies. The two motions were about legislation to promote the digital economy and private economy respectively, Liu Shijun, spokesperson for the delegation, said on Monday.

The six suggestions that involved supporting the Yangtze River Delta region into becoming a community of regional development, further enhancing the competitiveness and influence of Shanghai as an international financial center, and focusing on key elements and key industries to further support the construction of Shanghai as an international science and technology innovation center, said Liu, who is also deputy secretary-general of the Standing Committee of Shanghai Municipal People's Congress.

They also involved further supporting Pudong New Area to build a leading area for socialist modernization, supporting the Lingang new area to further expand high-level opening-up, and strengthening coordination to promote multimodal transport along the Yangtze River Economic Belt, he said.

Other suggestions by the individual deputies touched upon cultivating new quality productive forces, breeding emerging industries and future-oriented industries, promoting the optimization and upgrading of industrial and supply chains, improving the system to transform scientific and technological achievements, making public facilities more suitable for the elderly, and precise treatment of pollutants.
