As the weather warms, the Momoge National Nature Reserve in Zhenlai county of Baicheng city, Northeast China's Jilin province, has recently seen an influx of migratory birds.

Wang Kai, 39, a member of the Bird Protection Team in Baicheng, welcomes this busy season.

Since joining the team in 2018, Wang has regularly patrolled the nearby forests and wetlands where birds gather, spending half a day at a time to observe and record their activities, population numbers and habitat conditions, which he then reports to the reserve.

The county previously suffered from drought, soil desertification, and salinization. To combat these problems, the county focused on water management and initiated major restoration projects in recent years. The area is now an ideal habitat for numerous migratory birds searching for natural food and wetland resources each spring and autumn.

"Protecting the ecology and migratory birds is also a way of protecting our own home," said Wang. "I will continue to contribute to the ecological protection with my teammates through practical actions."
