Chinese defense minister urges avoidance of confrontation with US military
Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun called for the avoidance of confrontation between the Chinese and United States militaries, despite their differing paths. He made these remarks during his keynote speech at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore on Sunday.
Dong emphasized that the stability of China-US military relations is crucial to global security and stability. "China's position is consistent and clear: we have always been open to exchanges and cooperation, but this requires mutual effort towards the same direction," he said.
"We believe that because there are differences between our two militaries, it is even more important to engage in more communication. Even if our paths diverge, we must not engage in confrontation," Dong added.
He stressed the importance of prioritizing peace, stability, and trust, finding the right way to coexist, and providing more positive expectations for the world and the region.
