Two dead in north India train mishap

NEW DELHI -- Two people died and several others were injured when some coaches of a passenger train derailed in India's northern state of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, local media reported.

The train mishap involving the Dibrugarh Express, moving from Chandigarh city in Haryana state to Gorakhpur area in Uttar Pradesh, occurred in Gonda area of Uttar Pradesh.

TV reports showed people being rescued from derailed coaches, while some others sitting with their luggage by the side of the derailed coaches.

Rescue teams and district administration officials were rushed to the spot of the accident to take stock of the situation.
