Summer season learning tourism has surged 175 percent year-on-year thanks to rising market supply and family travelers' demands, major online travel agency Trip.com Group reports.

The number of learning tourists to Beijing, Shanghai, Jiangsu province's Nanjing, the Inner Mongolia autonomous region's Hulunbuir and Sichuan province's Chengdu has doubled and become the top domestic destinations for learning tourism, according to the agency.

The number of people who booked learning trips through Trip.com grew 120 percent, with the United Kingdom, the United States and New Zealand being the most popular long-haul destinations, with Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand being the most favorite among short-distance outbound travelers.

Particularly, museum visits have shown a double-digit growth, with the Palace Museum and the National Museum of China in Beijing and the Shanghai Museum among the most popular.

Learning tour costs ranging from flights to hotels have shown some decline, the travel agency notes.
