Mainland green lights tourism to Jinmen
The Chinese mainland is set to resume tourism of residents in Fujian province to Jinmen in response to a request from a Jinmen county delegation, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism said on Friday.
The ministry announced the information on its official website without elaborating it further.
In April, the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office announced that the Chinese mainland would take proactive measures, including tourism, to promote exchanges and cooperation in various fields between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait.
Data released by the office at that time showed that since the beginning of this year, the number of Taiwan residents obtaining five-year Taiwan compatriot travel permits in Fujian has reached 90,000, a 56.4 percent increase compared with the previous period.
The figure of Taiwan compatriots getting one-time travel permits doubled to 11,000 compared with the same period last year, according to the data.
The number of Taiwan residents entering Fujian ports has reached 230,000 this year, a 2.6-fold rise, the data said, adding that 54,000 Taiwan residents have benefited from convenient custom clearance services while traveling to Fujian.
