The fifth anniversary of the safe commissioning of the Jiquan DC transmission project
As of Sept 26, the ±1,100 kV Changji-Guquan UHVDC project (referred to as the "Jiquan DC project") has been safely and stably operating for five years.
The Jiquan HVDC project, independently developed, designed and constructed completely by China, standing as the world's most advanced UHV transmission project, boasting the highest voltage level, largest transmission capacity, longest transmission distance, and cutting-edge technology.
Serving as the "artery" for power transmission from Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, this project bundles and delivers Xinjiang's abundant coal, wind, solar, and other power resources to East China, facilitating the large-scale allocation of resources and illuminating the Yangtze River Delta with power from afar. This project was honored with the National Gold Award for high-quality projects from 2022 to 2023.
Guquan Converter Station serves as the landing site for the Jiquan DC project and is the inaugural DC UHV converter station managed by Anhui Company. Over the past five years, leveraging the opportunity presented by the comprehensive construction of a modern equipment management system, the company has steadfastly advanced the "State Grid Digital Demonstration Station". Guquan Converter Station spearheaded the establishment of a smart operation and inspection management and control system, significantly enhancing the quality and efficiency of operation and inspection.
The company has consistently strengthened the foundation of lean operation and maintenance management for equipment, innovating the operation and inspection management model within the "uncharted territory" of ±1,100 kV DC management.
The company has also implemented differentiated condition-based maintenance, pioneering "continuous maintenance, scheduled maintenance, and accompanying maintenance" within the State Grid System. Focusing on the operation and inspection of the UHV AC/DC hybrid power grid, the company has deepened team development, establishing the first DC talent training base in Anhui Electric Power.
Guquan Converter Station stands as the sole unit in the State Grid to have achieved full professional accreditation across all core teams, with three teams recognized as "Benchmark Teams," ranking first in the State Grid.
During this year's peak summer period, the power load in East China rapidly escalated alongside the high temperatures. Guquan Converter Station resolutely upheld its political responsibility of ensuring power supply, successfully navigating the 11 million kilowatt load test, and once again setting world records for ultra-high voltage engineering operations, including daily power transmission exceeding 250 million kilowatt hours and maintaining a 10.8 million kilowatt high load operation for over 12 hours.
Facing multiple rounds of high temperature and heavy load tests, Guquan Converter Station rigorously implemented the "one station, one case" and "one unit, one card" measures for equipment operation and maintenance.
Utilizing digital means such as online monitoring, drones, and robots, it enhanced monitoring and early warning for the first set of critical equipment, strengthened the allocation of operation and maintenance duty forces, increased the frequency of professional inspections and tests, and resolutely maintained the safety bottom line of the large power grid.
