China condemns Israeli attack on UN peacekeepers in Lebanon
China expressed serious concern and condemned the Israeli military's recent attack on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), a Defense Ministry spokesman said on Tuesday.
Wu Qian, spokesman for the ministry, addressed the incident during an online briefing, emphasizing China's opposition to any attack on UN peacekeepers.
"UNIFIL operates under the mandate of UN Security Council resolutions, and China firmly opposes any such attacks," Wu said. "We call for a thorough investigation and for those responsible to be held accountable."
He also urged all parties involved in the conflict to take concrete steps to prevent similar incidents and to ensure the safety of UNIFIL personnel and assets.
Wu confirmed that Chinese peacekeeping units stationed in Lebanon are safe and said China is monitoring the situation closely. "We will take additional measures to enhance security for our troops," he added.
