Share - WeChat
Chinese lacquer art has a history of eight thousand years. Where did it come from? What did it go through? China Daily invited Xenia, a designer from the Netherlands, to find out more from Professor Pu Meihe of Hubei Institute of Fine Arts in Wuhan, Hubei province. At the Muyantang Museum, Professor Pu introduced many exhibits that reflect how they were used in historical settings, and Xenia immersed herself in this lacquer era. Professor Pu also elaborated on the reason behind the decline of lacquer ware being used today, and explained why the term “Japan” referred to “l(fā)acquer ware”, a question that has bothered Xenia for some time. Watch the video to find out more.
