Heilongjiang's Daqing spurs low-carbon transformation
Daqing, a traditional petroleum and petrochemical city in Northeast China's Heilongjiang province, is intensifying efforts to promote low-carbon transformation in response to the country's green targets, said its mayor He Zhao on Thursday.
The city has completed the construction of new energy power generating units totaling 4.6 million kilowatts in installed capacity, including wind power, photovoltaics, and biomass. The proportion of new energy now exceeded 60 percent in installed capacity of power generating units. Electricity generated from new energy sources accounted for over 40 percent of the city's total electricity output, according to He.
The remarks were made during the ongoing Third Belt and Road Energy Ministerial Conference in Qingdao, Shandong province.
With new energy projects under construction or approved reaching a scale of 8 million kilowatts in capacity, once all are operational, the city's electricity demand can be largely met by green energy sources. The city is also stepping up efforts driving green oilfield development, He said.
