Efficient power supply leads to successful 'silver flower' harvesting season
On Oct 13, the 400-mu (26.67 hectares) cotton field belonging to Sun Qiang, a cotton farmer in Laoshawan town, Shawan city, were covered with bolls. Competing to burst and open, the cotton bolls signified the start of the cotton harvest season. Large cotton picking machines operated at full capacity leaving cotton farmers happy, outlining a delightful harvest picture.
The cotton industry is an important economic industry in Shawan city and also an important source of income for farmers. In 2024, the cotton planting area in Shawan city is 1.62 million mu. The full-process mechanization rate of cotton production has reached 99 percent. At the same time, every link of cotton production, acquisition and processing is inseparable from reliable power supply.
During the peak period of cotton harvest, in order to ensure electrical safety during cotton picking, State Grid Kuitun Power Supply Company provided a "one-stop" power supply service for cotton farmers. Staff pay regular door-to-door visits to check the safety measures of electric motor wells, transformers, switches and the operation of power lines in cotton planting areas. They also investigate hidden dangers such as line aging and illegal wiring in processing factories. In addition, the company reasonably arranges work schedules in reverse order and addresses problems affecting power supply quality such as heavy overload and low voltage in rural power grids, eliminating potential electrical safety hazards from the root cause of electricity consumption.
"The staff of the power supply company often comes to inspect electricity consumption during cotton planting to ensure the growth of our cotton. They also take the initiative to help us check the electricity consumption equipment such as motor wells and help our cotton planting increase production and income," said Sun Qiang, a cotton farmer in Laoshawan town.
As cotton acquisition works approaches, the ginning factory of Qinling Cotton Industry Co Ltd in Laoshawan town made relevant preparations. The company further strengthened the safety barrier for cotton acquisition and processing work by continuously strengthening safety electricity inspection, optimizing the acquisition process and service, strengthening management and control of production and processing links and strengthening safety production publicity and training, promoting the high-quality production of the cotton industry.
On that day, when entering Qinling Cotton Industry Co Ltd, the company's staff actively carried out safety electricity inspection services, carefully investigating potential power safety hazards on the special line of the ginning factory. They discovered potential problems such as aging wires, equipment overload and illegal electricity consumption which effectively prevented safety accidents, such as fires and equipment damage caused by power failures. In addition, it also ensured the smooth progress of all enterprise production activities.
To date, the company has taken the initiative to conduct comprehensive inspections for cotton farmers for free 28 times, assisted in rectifying 12 safety hazards in total and distributed more than 600 power safety manuals, ensuring reliable electricity consumption for cotton farmers.
