China Squash Open launches Wednesday
The highly anticipated 2024 China Squash Open will take place at the SPD Bank Oriental Sports Center Crescent Lagoon in Shanghai from Oct 30 to Nov 3.
The top-tier tournament features a prestigious lineup of participants, including former men's world No 1 Mohamed ElShorbagy and top-seeded female player Roway Elaraby, who is consistently ranked in the world's top 10.
Over 100 elite athletes, coaches, and staff from countries and regions including Egypt, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Malaysia and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China will participate in the tournament. The first group of athletes arrived in the city and commenced preparations on Oct 27.
The tournament awarded the final two wildcards to Chinese male player Li Haizhen and female player Cheng Linglu, signifying that all four wildcards had been secured by Chinese players. They will join their compatriots Zhou Penglin and Liu Ziyi to challenge the world's top players and earn ranking points, and most importantly, vie for the opportunity to compete in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
To welcome the relaunch of the event after a five-year hiatus, this edition will feature the competition venue set at the iconic Shanghai facility, the Crescent Lagoon of the SPD Bank Oriental Sports Center. This is the first time the Professional Squash Association (PSA) tour circuit has chosen a swimming pool as its backdrop.
Matches in the first four days will run from 6:30 pm to 10 pm, with the finals day featuring a women's singles final and a men's singles final from 7 pm to 9 pm. Tickets for the tournament are now available on the "Juss Sports" app and the semi-finals and finals will be broadcast on the Five Star Sports channel.
