On global issues, climate change emerged as the top concern for both Chinese (24.5 percent) and Japanese (35.8 percent) respondents. Moreover, 56.2 percent of Chinese respondents emphasized the importance of strengthening international cooperation to tackle global challenges, an increase of 3.4 percentage points from 2023.

The survey was conducted jointly by the China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration and the Tokyo-based nonprofit think tank Genron NPO, from mid-October to early November 2024, simultaneously in both countries.

Since its inception in 2005, the Beijing-Tokyo Forum has been successfully held 19 times, becoming one of the largest and highest-level platforms for public diplomacy and people-to-people exchanges between China and Japan.

The 20th Beijing-Tokyo Forum will take place in Tokyo from Wednesday to Thursday. Experts and scholars from both countries will discuss topics such as bilateral politics and diplomacy, economic and trade relations, security, the digital economy, media, and multilateral cooperation.
