BEIRUT - An Israeli airstrike on Monday night struck a house in the village of Haris in southern Lebanon, killing five people and wounding two others, said the Lebanese Health Ministry.

The strike is the latest in a series of Israeli airstrikes targeting several areas of southern Lebanon on Monday, including the Iqlim al-Tuffah region, the municipalities of Yater, Jbaa, and Hanin, as well as the town of Shebaa and the village of Arnoun.

In addition, earlier in the day, the Lebanese Red Cross and official sources reported that four were killed and three injured in Israeli attacks on the municipality of Talloussah, the town of Marjeyoun, and the village of Aainata in southern Lebanon.

Accusing Israel of "repeatedly violating" a ceasefire agreement that began last week, Hezbollah on Monday fired two mortars at Israeli positions near the Lebanon border.

The ceasefire agreement, brokered by the United States and France, went into effect on Nov 27, aiming to halt nearly 14 months of fighting between Israel and Hezbollah. Under the agreement, both sides agreed to a 60-day cessation of hostilities, with Israel gradually withdrawing its forces from southern Lebanon and Hezbollah retreating north of the Litani River.

Despite the truce, tensions remain high as both sides exchange accusations of ceasefire violations, raising concerns about the agreement's durability.
