Police probe Shanxi woman's 2011 disappearance
Police in Heshun county, Shanxi province, are investigating the case of a woman who went missing from her home in 2011. A male suspect, surnamed Zhang has been detained, according to a statement released by the investigative team on Tuesday and reported by Xinhua News Agency.
The 45-year-old woman, surnamed Bu, had been treated for mental illness several times. She was identified by the Heshun county public security bureau in November.
The statement said that Bu disappeared from her home in Jinzhong in May 2011. She was allegedly spotted by a woman in August that year. Days later, a local male resident surnamed Zhang took her home, the report said.
Bu, who earned a postgraduate degree in 2008, had undergone multiple treatments for mental health problems between 2008 and 2011, the report said.
She had children with Zhang, who knew her condition, the report said. Authorities have found no evidence of abduction or human trafficking, it added.
Bu is currently receiving care in a hospital. Officials in Heshun county have pledged ongoing support for her and her children. Guardianship for the children has not been determined, the report said.
