State Grid Hangzhou Power Supply Company: Smart greenhouses power 'floating strawberries' for a bright future
On Dec 16, a team from the State Grid Hangzhou Power Supply Company visited the Strawberry Theme Farm in Linping district to conduct electrical safety inspections for strawberry greenhouse growers. Rows upon rows of vibrant, plump strawberries were thriving on their growing racks, a sight that brought a smile to the face of farm manager Gu Xiaoming as he spoke with the State Grid team.
In recent years, Linping district has been actively promoting rural revitalization, focusing on developing specialized strawberry farming to boost villagers’ incomes and prosperity. From the Grand Canal Industrial Park to the Tangqi Industrial Park, the Strawberry Theme Farm has become a popular destination, a veritable "internet sensation" beloved by Hangzhou residents. The farm has also pioneered an integrated approach to development, combining efficient ecological agriculture with shared prosperity and rural beautification.
Unlike traditional manual strawberry greenhouse farming, the Strawberry Theme Farm adopts an electrified and intelligent greenhouse management system. Each greenhouse is equipped with conservatory roof shades, internal hot air generators and integrated fertigation systems. A smart IoT (Internet of Things) management platform precisely controls temperature and automates fertigation, ensuring optimal growing conditions even during the cold winter months by maintaining consistent temperature and humidity levels. Furthermore, the farm has introduced an innovative vertical, adjustable hanging system for the strawberry plants. The rosy berries hang in cascading rows, resembling waterfalls, and the system allows them to be raised or lowered to any desired height. Compared to conventional soil-less vertical farming, this hanging system increases space utilization within the greenhouse by 1.5 times, optimizing efficiency.
This increased greenhouse reliance on technology necessitates a highly reliable power supply. The State Grid Hangzhou Linping district branch has proactively addressed this need by organizing thorough safety inspections of all strawberry greenhouses in the region. These comprehensive "check-ups" focus on the condition of circuits, distribution boxes, switch boxes and other electrical equipment, ensuring standardized wiring and identifying any unauthorized or unsafe connections.
Specialized industries are the lifeblood of rural revitalization and reliable electricity is fundamental to their sustained growth. Looking ahead, the State Grid Hangzhou will implement a "grid-based management and refined service" strategy to optimize and enhance its customer-focused power supply services. The company is fully committed to providing robust electrical support for specialized agriculture, energizing its "electric power" into rural industries and fostering their continued success.
