Xiamen Port achieved a record number of shipping routes in 2024, with 11 new routes bringing the total number to 186. It ranked 11th globally in the Port Liner Shipping Connectivity Index released by UNCTAD. Leveraging this momentum, Xiamen Port hopes to establish itself as a world-class port.
With the global effort to peak carbon emissions and achieve carbon neutrality, the export demand for containerized lithium-ion battery energy storage systems is on the rise.
In early 2024, China's first maritime safety transportation guide tailored for containerized lithium-ion battery energy storage systems was released. Accordingly, new energy products have emerged as a new driver of growth for Xiamen Port.
In the first 11 months of last year, the port's containerized sea-rail throughput exceeded 120,000 TEUs, while the Xiamen Free Trade Zone has been promoting the development of sea-rail transport channels and maritime routes for transshipment at Xiamen Port. Sea-rail intermodal trains such as the "Nanping-Xiamen" and "Wuhan-Xiamen" have been launched, and efforts are being made to strengthen sea routes for the direct transportation of goods to Xiamen from surrounding areas.
Shore power supply for vessels is a crucial component of Xiamen Port's sustainability efforts. The Xiamen Container Terminal has already achieved full coverage of high and low voltage shore power equipment, with shore power berths now readily available.
