Regal Hotels International Holdings plans to own up to 20 hotels in China within five years, said Regal's controlling shareholder Lo Yuk-sui.

The company plans to expand its presence in gateway and second-tier cities, with the program costing "a few billion dollars," Lo said.

The firm will pursue its Chinese mainland expansion through a building program as well as acquisitions.
