Quality watchdog keeps eye on VW

(chinadaily.com.cn) Updated: 2013-01-07 16:19

An official from China's quality watchdog has said in an interview the administration is closely monitoring the quality of Volkswagen's direct-shift gearboxes.

The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine has been keeping an eye on Volkswagen since issues involving the company's faulty DSGs came to surface in March 2012, People.com.cn reported Saturday citing an official in anonymity.

The administration has conducted more than 10 field investigations and collected more than 10,000 pieces of information concerning the DSG problems.

Volkswagen extended its DSG quality warranty to 10 years or 160,000 kilometers for the Chinese market, after four talks with the administration. It is the longest DSG quality warranty in global market.

In the past two years, a growing number of consumers complained about abnormal sounds, shakes, and delays in the DSG of Volkswagen vehicles. Volkswagen announced an extended warranty program last week to address the concerns.
