Chongqing's imports and exports in the six months to July reached $30.17 billion, a year-on-year increase of 20.4 percent, according to the city's Municipal Statistics Bureau.
"It is the first time that the value of Chongqing's imports and exports ranked in the national top 10," said Huang Ke, the deputy head of the bureau.
Exports, valued at $20.97 billion, saw a year-on-year increase of 15.5 percent, while imports, valued at $9.20 billion, saw a year-on-year increase of 33.4 percent.
The city exported 20,75 million laptops in the first six months in 2013, an increase of 17.8 percent compared with the same period in 2012.
A total of 87 new direct foreign investment projects were signed in Chongqing in the first half year, with contracted investment worth $820 million.
Chongqing's GDP in the period rose 12.4 percent year-on-year.
