Comment on "Tight control on China's poultry over H7N9 fears" (China Daily website, Jan 22)
Washing bays must be built to ensure that trucks are cleaned thoroughly after delivering poultry to abattoirs or markets, and offal and other wastes generated by slaughterhouses must be disposed of following strict rules. Perhaps the sale of live poultry should be stopped altogether to avoid direct contact between consumers and live poultry and thus rule out contagion.
