Large numbers of people were seen standing in line to buy a commemorative stamp marking the G20 Leaders Summit in Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang province, when a China Daily reporter visited the event's media center on Friday.

The commemorative stamp, with a G20 logo and images of Hangzhou, including West Lake, has been issued nationwide, said Jiang Shaoping, an employee of China Post working at the center.

"It's a cultural and transitional way, I think, to remember the summit," said Jiang, adding that queues of people wishing to buy the stamp first started forming on Thursday.

The stamp, which costs 1.2 yuan, is mainly green, and it displays the theme of the summit, which is to build an innovative, invigorated, interconnected and inclusive world, Jiang said.

"We've sold more than 400 sets so far at the media center and I believe that number will rise as more journalists and guests come to the summit," she said.

A stamp is a country's name card, "and it's the second time that West Lake has been used for a stamp, and it's the first time for an event of such global importance to display local scenery," she said.

"A journalist all the way from Mexico came to the media center on Thursday to purchase some as souvenirs," Jiang added.

The issuing of G20 commemorative stamps first began in 2010 in South Korea.
