China launches international center to push sustainable development

China on Monday called for greater international effort and more coordination among governments to push sustainable development.

The country has launched the Center for International Knowledge on Development (CIKD), which is mandated to pool Chinese and international resources to advance research on sustainable development.

CIKD, affiliated with the Development Research Center of the State Council, will serve as a platform for countries to share their experience to respond to global development challenges and achieve sustainable development.

At the launch ceremony on Monday, Li Wei, president of DRC, said that the international community needs new theories and new wisdom to jointly address global challenges such as terrorism, climate change, imbalanced development and the anti-globalization trend.

The idea of setting up the CKID was first announced by President Xi Jinping at the UN Sustainable Development Summit in September 2015.

China also issued a report of its implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development on Monday, pledging to make progress and balanced development in the economic, social and environmental areas.
