The local public security bureau in Wuhan, capital of Central China's Hubei province, will send half of its officers in the city bureau to police stations at the community level.

The reform plan, which has been approved by the city government, will send more than 4,600 police officers to community police stations and branch bureaus by the end of September, according to a news release from the public security bureau.

The measure will increase the police presence at the community level by 40 percent, and more than 500 special police officers will also join the daily street patrols.

The plan is part of an effort by local authorities to reform the police system and increase its efficiencies, according to the release.

The reform will enable local community police stations to be in complete charge of safety in the communities they are assigned, and the city public security bureau will be focused on case investigations and coordination of police stations.
