Peking U student denies electoral bribery

A Peking University student has denied writing an online report that claims the current president of the student union won the election through bribery, the Beijing News reported.

Former Peking University professor Zou Hengfu posted the report on his micro blog and blog on Saturday. The report bore the signature of Peking University student Ji Yu and had Ji's contact information, according to the Beijing News.

The report said the student-union president spent more than 500,000 yuan ($78,650) buying students' votes.

The post was forwarded more than 10,000 times. Zou deleted the post on Sunday.

Ji quickly distanced himself from the accusation of vote-buying.

"I didn't write the report," said Ji, who wrote a statement online to disavow the report and say that he didn't know anything about it.

Public relations officials of Peking University said an investigation was under way.

Zou has previously posted unverified scandals of officials of Peking University on his micro blog.

Peking University responded last week, saying that it is looking into the allegations and wants Zou to cooperate. But Zou said he wants to talk only to independent investigators like the central government's disciplinary authorities.
