A former district public security bureau chief in Chengdu, Sichuan province, stood trial in the city’s Qingbaijiang district court on Wednesday.

Wu Tao, 44, was charged of bribery, illegal possession of ammunition and forgery of State documents.

After nearly three hours, the judge adjourned the court and a verdict wasn’t delivered, said the Chengdu Economic Daily.

Sources from the Chengdu public security bureau said that Wu was taken away by the city’s disciplinary inspection authority for an investigation on about May 23. In mid-May, he planned to escape with a hefty sum.

Wu was believed to have close ties with Li Chuncheng, former deputy Party chief of the province.

After Li was investigated for alleged disciplinary violations in December 2012, investigators found Li’s wife Qu Songzhi had two passports. It was Wu who obtained the two passports for her, the sources said.

Wu himself was found to have four passports, the sources said.
