5.1-magnitude quake hits Tibet

BEIJING - A 5.1-magnitude earthquake jolted southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region at 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday (Beijing Time), according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.

The quake hit the Nyima County in Nagqu Prefecture of Tibet, according to the center.

The epicenter, with a depth of 20 km, was monitored at about 33.8 degrees north latitude and 89.2 degrees east longitude, it said in a statement.

Migmar, head of Nyima County, said no casualties or property loss have been reported so far.

He said the epicenter in the north of the county was an uninhabited area, and no tremor was felt at the county seat.
