Apple may be starting its expansion to China's second-tier cities with a new retail store in Wuxi, Jiangsu province.

According to information on Apple's China website, the company is looking for qualified people to work in Wuxi. Wuxi is a wealthy city in eastern China. Its annual per capita GDP surpassed $20,000 in 2013, according to the Wuxi Statistics Bureau.

Apple currently has 10 retail stores on the Chinese mainland, all of them in first-tier cities such as Beijing and Shanghai. The company also plans to open two retail stores in Chongqing, one of China's four municipalities.

In a January interview with China Daily, Apple's CEO Tim Cook revealed Apple wants to reach more customers in China, including those who live in smaller Chinese cities.

Apple's deal with China Mobile will help the US mobile phone giant gain access to the untapped inland market. Cook described China Mobile's distribution network as "an enormous asset".
