More than 60 percent of Shanghai residents disapprove of women retiring at the same age as men, a new report said.
The survey was released by Shanghai Statistics Bureau on its website on Thursday. It polled 770 respondents through telephone interviews.
Nearly 50 percent of those surveyed said that 55 is the best age for women to retire. And more than 90 percent of female respondents said women should retire at the age of 55 or below for health reasons.
Attitudes toward female retirement varied with respondents' educational backgrounds. Those with less education were more willing to retire at age of 55 or below, the study said.
