The dried-out body of a finless porpoise is found on the beach of Poyang Lake, the largest freshwater lake in China in Duchang, Jiangxi province, on Nov 26, 2014. The finless porpoise is a critically endangered freshwater species rarer even than the giant panda. Recent surveys suggest that there are a mere thousand animals left as water pollution and overfishing have driven the porpoise near extinction.[Photo/IC] |
