An anti-terrorist drill was held in a customs checkpoint in the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone in Fujian province, on Nov 26.
The revised regional regulation on religious affairs is the first in the country to target religious extremism, and is due to come into force on Jan 1.
A Xinjiang court sentenced eight to death on Monday in connection with two terrorist attacks that occurred in April and May in Urumqi.
Religious extremism is at the root of terrorism and leads to violence such as the attacks in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, experts said as a Urumqi court delivered eight death sentences.
