Restricted areas for reality TV a no-no

China Daily | Updated: 2015-08-17 07:56

The local government of Suining county in Central China's Hubei province announced recently that certain areas will have restricted access, due to the filming of Dad, Where Will We Go?, a popular TV reality show. Residents have been informed they will have to furnish their ID cards and household registration booklets to get in and out of those areas. This has drawn widespread public criticism. Comments:

Some local officials love to project their "images" even if it means inconveniencing the public. Some officials believe that if an area under their jurisdiction is used to shoot a film or TV program, it will give publicity to their image and enhance their political performance. Such distorted mindsets have prompted some local authorities to host sports events or cultural activities while ignoring the interests of the public.
