The live-action remake of animated classic "Cinderella" led Chinese box office sales in the week ending March 15, earning about 162 million yuan ($25.9 million).

The adventure-fantasy, which stars Lily James as princess Ella and Cate Blanchett as her stepmother, opened in Chinese theaters Friday.

Animated feature "Big Hero 6," the champion in the previous week, was a respectable No. 2, earning 144 million yuan. The film, which debuted on February 28, has grossed 422 million yuan in ticket sales, China Film News reported on Tuesday.

Fantasy-adventure "Jupiter Ascending" came in third with 107 million yuan in the week. The film has pulled in 256 million yuan since its opening on March 6.

The fourth spot went to "The Man from Macao II" with 68 million yuan. The domestic family comedy, starring Chow Yun-Fat, has pulled in more than 957 million yuan since it opened on February 19 in time for China's Spring Festival holiday, a prime time for moviegoing.

Rounding out the top five was adventure film "Wolf Totem," which took in 48 million yuan in the week. Debuting on the same day as "The Man from Macao II," its total box office earnings stood at about 682 million yuan on March 15.
