Chinese classics available on WeChat

( cri.cn ) Updated: 2016-04-24 12:52:25

Mobile phone users in China have been given access to a selection of Chinese classics on messaging app WeChat.

This is part of the campaign in promoting the 21st World Book Day.

Put together by Zhonghua Book Company, the selection includes over 300 texts on literature and history, such as "Twenty-five Histories" and "A General Mirror for Governing the World."

Survey results showed that 60 percent of Chinese people did most of their reading on mobile phones in 2015, an 8 point increase compared to the figure in 2014.

WeChat is the most popular messaging app in China, with more than 500 million registered users.

Wang Han, a famous host in China, served as the promoter of this year's book season.

"The best promotion is to let others sense the temperament of 'Learned people always behave in elegance' that you give out, and make them pursue it because of admiration."

Organized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, World Book Day aims to promote reading, publishing and copyright across the world.
