Palace Museum gets new collection

By Lin Qi ( chinadaily.com.cn ) Updated: 2016-04-28 15:38:45

Seven works of "Ding ware" were added to the Palace Museum collection in Beijing on April 22.

They were created by Chen Wenzeng, Lin Zhanxian and He Huan, all artisans from Quyang in North China's Hebei province, where kilns first produced the ivory-white ceramics in the late Tang Dynasty (AD 618-907).

Known for their lightness and glaze, the items mostly come in three colors — white, black and green.

The new exhibits include a pillow in the shape of a reclining child that replicates another ancient porcelain piece housed at the same museum, and several other vases and bowls made with a modern touch.

The production of the ancient ware was revived in the 1970s.
