Some facts about the Liaoning

What does it look like?

The aircraft carrier is more than 300 meters long and more than 70 meters wide. There are 10 floors below the main deck and nine above. The normal displacement of water is more than 50,000 tons.

Is it a conventional aircraft carrier or a nuclear-powered one?

It is a conventional aircraft carrier.

How was the Liaoning built?

The aircraft carrier was reconstructed in China from an old aircraft carrier platform through independent innovation, research and development. The ship-borne aircraft on the carrier were also developed and produced domestically, and relevant work is moving forward as scheduled.

Who is on board?

There are more than 1,000 crew members, and about 5 percent of them are female.

Non-commissioned officers account for two-thirds of the total, and officers and compulsory servicemen each take up half of the other third. More than 98 percent of the officers aboard the Liaoning have college degrees or above, and among those, at least 50 possess master's degrees or above. All of the servicemen have finished their high school education and 30 percent have received a college education.

What about life on the carrier?

The aircraft carrier is widely referred to as a "city at sea". It has varied facilities, such as a supermarket, post office, laundry rooms, gym and rubbish disposal stations. Even the bars have been divided into the noisy section and the quiet section. Therefore, life on board is relatively convenient.
