Romance of the Three Kingdoms Period

Romance of the Three Kingdoms Period

A cutting-edge setting combined with ancient music and dance, Nymph of the River Luo, a dance drama performed by Zhengzhou Song and Dance Company at Poly Theater from March 9 to 11, transported audiences back to the Three Kingdoms Period (AD 220-280).

The five-act dance focusing on the rituals, music and poetry of the Three Kingdoms, is inspired by Cao Zhi's poem Ode to the Nymph of the River Luo and tells of the love story between Cao and a woman surnamed Zhen, who later married Cao's bother.

The young award-winning dancer Wang Zihan takes the role of Cao Zhi; Li Hongjun is his brother and Tang Shiyi is the charming Zhen.

The production is co-produced by Poly Theater Management Co, a leading chain of theaters, and the show will be performed at various Poly Theaters in other cities.

The medium, a message and an original award

An awards ceremony for the "New Year Wish Rally" competition of original text messages was held recently in Beijing.

Started in late December, the competition received more than 60,000 text messages from all over China, sent by 12.07 million people. The contents of the messages were mostly about good wishes for the Chinese Year of Rabbit.

The competition was organized by a number of major Chinese websites such as people.com.cn, xinhuanet.com, and cntv.cn, as well as telecommunication companies including China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom.

Feng Xiaogang in praise of CPPCC

Directed by Feng Xiaogang, the music video for We, a song by 20 star members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), has been released as a tribute to the CPPCC session, which finished on Sunday.

The singers include anchor woman Yang Lan, actor Chen Daoming, Olympic champion Deng Yaping, cross-talk comedian Jiang Kun and Feng himself.

The song's composer Shu Nan and lyricist Zhang Heping also wrote the theme song for the blockbuster film The Founding of a Republic.

Liu Yanfeng records his memories

Liu Yanfeng is holding a solo show at Daqian Gallery in Liulichang Cultural Street, Xicheng district, Beijing. On display are more than 30 flower-and-bird paintings and landscapes.

Themed on "memories", the young, Beijing-based artist records his childhood through the ordinary objects in the courtyard of his home - the trees, the flowers, the birds and the insects.

The works are created by both traditional ink painting techniques and modern impressionist approaches, with vivid color schemes and lively composition.

The exhibition will run until March 17.
