A court in East China's Anhui province issued its first order to protect an individual’s personal safety on August 5.

Yongqiao District People's Court in Suzhou, Anhui province, provided official protection to a local woman who suffered serious domestic violence from her husband.

The defendant, surnamed Zhang, is allegedly very extreme, frequently abusing and insulting the plaintiff. He also sent harassing text messages and even insulted his wife at her work place.

After an investigation, the court confirmed the accusations and issued an order to protect the defendant from domestic violence.

The court also worked closely with local public security personnel, the Women's Federation, and the village committee to effectively implement the order.

Chinese legislators drafted the country’s first national domestic violence law in 2014 and it went into effect in March of 2016.
