Daily turnover grew by 50 percent at Li Qiang’s store, as more patrons came from other parts of Fujian and even outside Fujian.

“The most desirable products are laundry detergent, pineapple cakes, soybean sauce and other condiments,” said Li.

Business at Lin Sheng’s Hengyuan Import&Export Trading Co was an even bigger success, as he revealed that the turnover increased six times during the holiday. A lot of people are coming to buy Taiwan tea at the store.

Lin said he has received 15 orders from some big clients prior to the holiday, with the amount ranging from 20,000 yuan to 60,000 yuan.

The Taiwan Commodity Market, which opened in June 2014, is located in Aoqian town.

It comprises 38 buildings in the Minnan folk style, divided into a duty-free zone, non-duty free zone and support function zone.

A favorable tax policy operates at the market, with tax exemptions granted by the Ministry of Finance on six categories of Taiwan goods: oil and grain products, farm products, textiles and garments, artwork, light industrial products, and medicine.

The daily cap per person is 6,000 yuan ($960), and purchasing records are tracked. If the sum exceeds the threshold, both customers and merchants must pay the tax.
