The fruits imported from Taiwan to Pingtan, Fujian province hit a record high in the past April, as the number amounted to over 42 tons, worth about $55,000, ptnet.cn reported on May 13.

The import fruits included 8 types, featuring pineapple, sweetsop, guava, orange, lemon, pawpaw, wax apple, and carambola, which was also a historical number in varieties.

Officials said that the surge in fruit quantity and varieties resulted from the convenience of cross-Straits delivery, because the launch of Haixia and Lina ferries shuttling between Pingtan and Taiwan helps speed up cross-Straits delivery and lower its costs.

Another driving force was an innovative measure in customs inspection and quarantine for Taiwan fruits, which can both ensure the fruit safety and shorten the customs clearance to 2 or 3 days.
