Updated: 2016-03-08
Zhanjiang will spare no efforts to carry out the national innovation-driven strategy and is keen to attract more science and technology talents to work and live in the coastal city, according to the city's Mayor Wang Zhongbing.
Wang expressed his views during an interview with reporters from the Science and Technology Daily, a State-owned media outlet, on March 5, as the fourth session of the 12th National People's Congress (NPC) got underway in Beijing.
An innovation-driven strategy has become a major part of Zhanjiang's core plan to revitalize its economy and the city government has issued a series of policies to improve the innovation abilities of enterprises and to nurture more high-tech companies, according to Wang.
The city will continue to attach great importance to the construction of the "South Sea Valley" project to develop itself into a leader in marine science and technology and to boost innovation in the area, Wang pointed out.
During the interview, the mayor illustrated some successful cases of innovation, such as improving the utilization rate of tropical climate products, such as pineapple, rubber and shrimp, stressing the importance of both innovation and real-world situations.
As Zhanjiang enters into a new era driven by innovation, the city government will issue more preferential policies for talents and provide them with new zones to help them specialize in the combination of science, life and market, said the mayor.
"Zhanjiang's industrial development is in need of science and technology talents and the city's living environment will not let them down. We encourage more talents to come to the city to put their potential into full play," said Wang.
